An 8-part Jazz FM series on UK soul has been nominated in the Factual category at this year's TRIC (Television and Radio Industries Club) awards. Facing stiff competition the other nominees in the same category spanning TV, streaming and radio are: Beckham, Drive to Survive, Martin Lewis Money Show Live, MH370: The Plane That Disappeared, Mr Bates vs The Post Office: The Real Story, Planet Earth III, BBC Radio 1's Life Hacks, Rose Ayling-Ellis: Signs for Change, The Repair Shop, BBC Radio 4's Things Fell Apart and Wild Isles. An in house Jazz FM production The Story of UK Soul is presented by Simon Phillips and touches on Northern Soul, Lovers Rock, Acid Jazz and Nu Soul from the 1960s to the 2020s. Anecdotes from Beverley Knight, Mica Paris, Courtney Pine, Emeli Sandé, Omar, Chris Amoo, Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, Orphy Robinson, Junior Giscombe, Billy Ocean and Carl McIntosh of Loose Ends intersperse the narrative and musical examples. DJ input includes word from DJs Colin Curtis, Greg Wilson and Trevor Nelson while industry names such as Eddie Piller of Acid Jazz also figure. The winner will be announced on 25 June at a London ceremony to be held in Park Lane hotel the Grosvenor House.
