1st Thing’s first: Abby Oliveira, at the microphone, while Caimin O’Shea sets the level
Abby Oliveira headlined The Thing Itself, the poetry, spoken word, and song night marking its first year anniversary.
The Jackie Kay inspired Derry based Scot cited the Makar in the course of her superb reading.
It was a lucid portrait-of-an-artist meditation, with ‘Dandelion’ at its engrossing heart.
The monthly event takes place in the Cellar Bar venue of baker Leslie Wilkins’ Mulherns located on Enniskillen’s Belmore Street.
During its first year the event was also in residence at The Happiness Trap on Townhall Street and as a pop up on the Lovely Leitrim floating tapas bar tied up on the Erne near Regal Pass.
The Thing Itself is curated by Caimin O’Shea who introduced a range of poets who then filled the open mic slots, singer songwriter guitarist Myles McCormack providing the support. SG
