Colours

Crowd-funded through a platform called Musicraiser most of the compositions here were composed and arranged by Ayn Inserto who debuted with her album Clairvoyance featuring Bob Brookmeyer and George Garzone in 2006 and who began her association with trombonist Massimo Morganti’s Colours Jazz Orchestra two years later.

Beginning with a Leonard Bernstein-type flourish in the arranging on ‘You’re Leaving? But I Just Got Here’, the Boston-based Inserto who teaches composition at Berklee expresses her love of Italy on the album and in particular the Senigallia and Marche region in her writing. Also included is a lively treatment of Joe Henderson’s ‘Recorda Me’. Strong brass, lush voicings, if sometimes a little too manicured, and zestful ensemble routines are the order of the day. The album was recorded at the Naive studio in Fano in March 2013. SG
