The 2024 Brighton Jazz Festival returns soon with a strong line-up scheduled.
Festival Line-up and Highlights
Thursday, September 26th: The festival kicks off with two standout saxophonists. Sean Payne leads his quartet in an early evening performance, followed by Rachael Cohen, who will be performing with an adventurous trio featuring pianist Miki Yamanaka.
Friday, September 27th: New Generation Jazz takes over with high-energy performances from two dynamic bands. KNATS, known for their genre-crossing sound that blends sophisticated arrangements with dance beats, will perform, followed by Tjoe & NTBM, a Hong Kong-based project that merges jazz with urban sounds.
Saturday, September 28th: The festival continues with the QOW Trio whose drummer is Tubby Hayes legend (Rev.) Spike Wells. They will be followed by NYC saxophonist Patrick Bartley, who will perform alongside the Deschanel Gordon Trio, promising a night of high-energy jazz. The Julian Joseph influenced pianist Gordon (pictured) has also been working with pop/R&B singer Olivia Dean in recent years
Sunday, September 29th: The final night is dedicated to some of the UK's most celebrated jazz musicians. The legendary saxophonist Tim Garland (known for his work with Chick Corea) is in a duo with pianist Jason Rebello who toured and recorded extensively with Sting and Jeff Beck. Also headlining is Brighton's own Claire Martin, one of the greatest jazz singers of her generation, who will close the festival performing classics from the Great American Songbook. The Shirley Horn influenced Claire has a great new duo version (with Charlie Wood) of Tom Waits' 'This One's From the Heart' out at the moment.
The festival will also feature a range of daytime events and takes place at Horatio’s Bar located at the end of the Palace Pier.
