The main festival events this week and running into next take place at the RYE INTERNATIONAL JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL that runs at various venues in the historic East Sussex town of Rye from Thursday and through until next week's August late-summer Monday bank holiday.
Artists appearing for 2024 include saxophonist Camilla George (pictured), the great jazz Jamaican Monty Alexander, just turned 80, whose recent album D-Day is his best in years, grooving New Orleans sounds from pianist Jon Cleary and star turns from Eric Bibb, Omar and Mica Miller to us the best soul voice to come out of the north of England since Lisa Stansfield.
Five-Way Split Eastside, London TONIGHT
Nominated in the Jazz Ensemble of the Year category for this autumn's Parliamentary Jazz Awards the Five-Way Split line-up remains trumpeter Quentin Collins, known for his work with Omar and with Brandon Allen, saxist Vasilis Xenopoulos, pianist Rob Barron, bassist Matyas Hofecker and drummer Matt Home. Their hard swinging album All the Way was issued by Ubuntu last year.
Miles Pillinger Quintet Lescar, Sheffield WED
Breakthrough bassist Fergus Quill features in drummer newcomer Miles Pillinger's band. The full line-up for Sheffield, as indicated by the venue's website, is the same as in the Leeds filmed video, above.

Tenorist Matthew Kilner is at the Blue Lamp with top Scottish pianist Paul Harrison, bassist Ewan Hastie and drummer Alyn Cosker. From Aberdeen, Kilner is debuting with an album that according to its Crowdfunder description is ''heavily inspired by Aberdonians, the North-East and its landscape.''

Famed US tenor saxophone romantic back in Soho for a run of dates with his longstanding British band of pianist John Pearce, bassist Dave Green and drummer Steve Brown.
