Maya Delilah's bluesfully blissful yearning - deep down soul affirming

The appealingly winsome 'Look At The State Of Me Now' is new from Maya Delilah, a UK singer-songwriter & guitarist here with the song's co-writers Aquilo's Benjamin Fletcher on keys, bass & drums and guitarist Tom Higham. Signed to jazz label Blue Note Records, the 24-year-old north Londoner Delilah collaborates with Fletcher and Higham who grew up in Morecambe Bay's Silverdale. Check Aquilo covering Drake's 'Hotline Bling' here back in 2020. Into Rosie Frater-Taylor a bit, say on the singer-guitarist's version of John Martyn classic 'Solid Air' with Sean Khan recently? Then draw closer to Delilah. There's a certain affinity of empathy in the two different approaches and reverting back to our starting point check out the brow raising up in the rafters bluesy guitar break that turns up organically back on 'Look at The State of Me Now'. Delilah, who went to the Brit School in Croydon, a breeding ground for future big name pop stars, was on the Blue Note Re: Imagined Vol. 2 2022 compilation covering Neil Young's classic 'Harvest Moon' with Cassandra Wilson in mind.
