Schemes, Rivers, Jazzland ****

The band's the thing.

Norwegian band Schemes are pretty fresh - 'Rivers' begins as if it is jazztronica and then moves into heavyweight forward facing post bop pulse shifting spaces only they know.

Schemes in action

â–  Inspired, according to issuing label Jazzland, by Petter Eldh's Koma Saxo and ''the ECM piano trio sound''

â–  'Rivers' - in the Bandcamp stream above - was composed collaboratively by the quartet members.

■ These are saxophonist Brede Sørum, pianist Oliver Skou-Due, bassist Bendik Løland Lundsvoll and drummer Veslemøy Narvesen.
