The Jon Hendricks vocalese referring 'Ain't Gonna Moan No More' is far better than The Prophet Speaks version. Gelling with Elling - it's a good git-together you could aptly say as is the date with the SNJO tonight. Check out leader Tommy Smith's previously unreleased sublime Love Unrequited tracks with John Taylor that until now sat in the vaults staggeringly gathering dust. The reels possibly even attracted the affection of a few of the wee, sleekit, cowrin, tim’rous beastie variety. Nevertheless they emerge beyond all gnawing, unscathed, pristine and rather beautiful in fetching streaming is believing apparel.

GIG OF THE WEEK

â–  Artie Zaitz Quartet The Bear Club, Luton Sat

Born to play - no plan B - grooving guitarist Artie we've heard a few times down the years at Ronnie's, over in Hackney at the much missed Kansas Smitty's and coming out of Lockdown a few years ago in Camilla George's band in Camden at the Jazz Cafe. The nattily dressed Londoner this week in Hatters territory has a new album The Regulator out on Mark Kavuma's Banger Factory Records label at the moment. It features Ross Stanley on Hammond C-3, steady Steve Brown on drums and Dave Pattman on conga. Two years on from Back To Back it's Afro-Cuban and latin jazz themed and has a tune on it the blues ‘Some Extent’ that Zaitz wrote when just a teen. Check out too Artie dad Jake's tune the infectious jam ‘Boogaloo Ga Goo.’ Deschanel Gordon, mentioned earlier, plays the A-Z of piano in Luton take Art - hats off, haring up the M1, in the Grant Green loving one's combo.

â–  Andy Davies Quartet The Verdict, Brighton Sat

Derring-do from the Kenny Dorham influenced Welsh wiz Davies guaranteed.

■ Katharine Timoney Enniskillen Hotel, Enniskillen Sun in the afternoon
