Soothing and restorative Tone Forest enter our consciousness for the first time. A trio built on co-operation - the band's certainly the thing and an all-as-one mentality counts. From the United States it's pianist Miro Sprague, bassist Marty Jaffe and 7-string classical & archtop guitarist Jason Ennis.
There's an emphasis on the melodic, pristine harmonies and a crystal clear mindfulness. The driving tune 'Oasis' was written by Jaffe. Elsewhere Ennis piece 'A Wave Away' has more of an Andalusian feel. Made up of originals each player contributes, anyone who might be into Marc Johnson, Egberto Gismonti or Ralph Towner surely will be beating a trail to an album inspired by the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires areas of forest and outstanding natural beauty in western Massachusetts. Just 6 tunes - an album that knows the value of brevity and making every note count you'll be pining (pun intended) for more. Totally hypnotic - melody lines are as clean and refreshing as the most unsullied mountain stream imaginable. The sonics also capture the natural fibres and characteristics of each instrument extremely well.
'A Wave Away' and 'Oasis' are streaming ahead of Friday's full album release. In the video there's also an alternate 'Oasis' take.
