National Concert Hall gig for Dublin on 11 March 25 to be announced shortly
It's to be announced soon with tickets to go on sale in less than a fortnight. But it's looking like a significant event for the Irish jazz scene next year is in the offing with this side of St Patrick's Day, the first appearance in Ireland, at Dublin's National Concert Hall, by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JALCO).
The date of the concert is to be Tuesday 11 March 2025 at 8pm - tickets go on sale via the National Concert Hall in Dublin on Friday 11 October at 10am.
There's bound to be a lot of interest in this gig from the national press and broadcast media in Ireland.
We contacted the National Concert Hall where the gig is to take place for more details.
A representative emailed to say that the event is to be presented by Teddy D Promotions. The date has been confirmed to us by the promoter.
To the max
Civil rights meditational
In very good form recently in terms of recordings following on from their wise and stimulating Juneteenth peroration Freedom, Justice and Hope reviewed in these pages in the summer, JALCO's Max Roach release The Music of Max Roach released even more recently was recorded in January in New York and took Max Roach (1924-2007) compositions as a touchstone.
Recordings of the great bebop pioneer issued in the 1950s and 1960s touched upon included 'Blues Waltz' from Jazz in 3/4 Time and significant selections from classic civil rights statement We Insist right up to 1966's 'The Drum Also Waltzes' from the Arif Mardin produced Atlantic album Drums Unlimited.
