You would not necessarily know on a blindfold listening that Heart, Mind & Spirit is by a drummer-led band. But it is. The drummer at the helm is Piotr Budniak. Remember the name. The guitar of David Doružka flavours the band sound to a certain extent. However, flavour is not at all domination. The good thing about this fine album is that the band is king. It has also been described aptly by Wulf Müller (who incidentally has named Ephemeral Pleasures as one of his picks of 2020 another recent album that the experienced Budniak appears on), as ''leaning toward jazz fusion, with influences from Eastern Europe and their classical traditions.'' Saxophonist Wojciech Lichtański on 'Futrix' shows yet another point of entry and still another additional dimension to the album emerges. The manipulation of polyrhythms above all else are vital in the band modus operandi and there is an interconnectedness across the different parts in the compositional method that sizzles and sweeps you up along with its essential sense of flow.
