New Orleans R-and-B singer, songwriter, saxophonist Robert Parker has died, reportedly of natural causes, at the age of 89. He was the writer of the 1960s hit 'Barefootin’. As a teen he played sax with Professor Longhair and later started his own band, Robert Parker and the Royals. He played sessions for the likes of Ernie K-Doe, Fats Domino, Frankie Ford and Irma Thomas and in the Tijuana Club house band backed many visiting icons such as Brother Ray whose sound he resembled on his infectiously riffing biggest hit. Parker was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
