The French pianist, composer and conductor Claude Bolling has died aged 90.
Inspired early on by Duke Ellington he became famed in the 1950s for his big band. Later he experimented with yéyé and wrote extensively for films. Of his work for the movies Borsalino from 1970 became one of his best known. As too did his 'Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio' that blended elements of the Baroque with jazz in a modern swing style and became popular in the United States, spending a decade in the Billboard charts.
