Jazz clubs come in many shapes and forms. Some are ''clubs'' but aren't even called that. The smaller the better usually because we all go for the intimacy and the far more natural sound and personal experience. It's not like sitting in a hangar-like building that has more in common with waiting for the train, the band just specks in the distance, the sound so mangled it's as if it's beamed in via the tannoy in Tesco if you're lucky. You're a name not a number in the best clubs, it's not so anonymous and more a fun, human, sociable experience – on a good night anyway! Here's our quick guide to what's on at a small selection of clubs running events on the London scene soon, a few off the beaten track and ripe to discover for the first time

Bassist Daniel Casimir has a fine gathering of top players with him on the album collectively including a lot of leaders (Nubya Garcia, Andy Davies, Moses Boyd among these). It works overall although the vocals of Ria Moran on 'Get Even' and 'Rewind the Time' don't do an awful lot for me. Head to the 'Safe' tracks more as a priority which are at the heart of the album. Hard bop, strings-soaked and cosmic in nature, horns doing call and response with the strings, the keyboardist Al Macsween is a good presence on the record and DC's new statesman beat is very presidential throughout.
