Track of the day is a throwback and not just in the title '1974' but in the style from that period cultivated by Jan Garbarek and Keith Jarrett. A handsome, optimistic, anthemic theme lies at the heart of the track led by the expressive tenor saxophone sound of Andy Sheppard making stately progress as the long-running Espen Eriksen trio expertly accompany him. This live track features on new album In The Mountains (their first live album) which is released today.

Standards but not as you know them. This is pianist Tigran Hamasyan's first significant treatment of an album of American standards and you get a radically different inflection, sense of space and accentuation throughout. Recorded in Los Angeles last year the set includes Richard Rodgers, Charlie Parker, Jerome Kern and David Raksin material plus a Tigran improvisation with bandmates bassist Matt Brewer, drummer Justin Brown and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. Saxophonist Joshua Redman guests on Charlie Parker’s 'Big Foot' and fellow tenorist Mark Turner does likewise on Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein’s 'All the Things You Are.' Pick of the album is the spine tingling treatment of 'I Should Care' featuring Akinmusire and finding Tigran stealthy and mysterious in response to the walking-on-eggshells trumpet lines. Out today
