Super cool and very jazz soaked, relatable, græ from US singer Moses Sumney is picking up a lot of interest and understandably so. His voice is utterly startling. From the UK jazz scene, joining a good sprinkling of US jazz musicians topped by Thundercat, Nubya Garcia (on the track 'Virile') and Shabaka Hutchings (on 'Colouour') are among the guests. Check too by scrolling through in a very hip choice, a treatment of 'Gagarin' covering est's 'From Gagarin's Point of View' with joining Sumney, Shahzad Ismaily, Jamire Williams, Mike Haldeman and Brandon Coleman on the track and on which the singer adds an extraordinary vocal performance to his lyrics. Sublime pianism, an engrossing darkness in the Mehldau composition that revels in an introspective space that seems very attuned to the eerie restlessness of Lockdown in its poise and distance, here from I Still Play new next week.

'LA Pastorale' is one of 11 solo piano compositions on an album that features works by John Adams, Laurie Anderson, Timo Andres, Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Brad Mehldau, Steve Reich, Pat Metheny, and Randy Newman.

To be issued by Nonesuch, Mehldau [pictured top] on I Still Play also interprets Pat Metheny piece '42 Years.'
