Freeness presenter Corey Mwamba, above with saxophonist Soweto Kinch pictured at the London Jazz Festival launch two years ago when the show was first announced, is to deliver a seminar at City, University of London, next month entitled 'How the vibraphone is a mouth'. Mwamba as a vibist was influenced by UK jazz icon Orphy Robinson and looks to ''provoke new ways of thinking about personal sound on the vibraphone in jazz and improvised music''. Mwamba more of an academic and broadcaster these days than a performer holds a doctorate in jazz research awarded by Birmingham City University. If you don't know Freeness we regard it as easily the best jazz show among the woefully slimmed-down roster of shows on Radio 3, particularly if you like avant and improvised styles, the station's best since Brian Morton's much missed Impressions.
