NEVER OUT BEFORE. Basically the Moanin' band except that Hank Mobley is on sax not Benny Golson, Just Coolin', for line-up completeness sake, has of course Art Blakey leading from the drums with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Hank Mobley, tenor saxophone, Bobby Timmons playing piano, Jymie Merritt on bass, excitingly has never been out before and the ridiculously classy swinging lead-off track is a gem. Listen for the bit when Lee Morgan simply explodes…
… Dating back to 8 March 1959 Blue Note records are putting it out on 24 April on vinyl, CD and for download/streaming. Makes you realise all over again why you love jazz in the first place. Whether you were alive when this was made or not matters not a jot.
