Here's the first track to stream from We're All Improvisers Now, the very immersive 'Nordique Americana (PT.1)' which has a very fine saxophone solo that hovers magisterially over the dense layer of instruments towards the end from Logan Richardson. The work of drummer and composer Tommy Crane who makes his debut as a leader look for the album on the Whirlwind label in June.

The participants for the seventeenth edition of talent development scheme Take Five have been announced. The annual programme offers mentorship and opportunities to emerging artists from across the United Kingdom, funded by the PRS Foundation, Arts Council England and Serious Trust. This year's cohort is:

Charlotte Keeffe – Trumpet, flugelhorn, piano, voice

Dominic Canning – Piano/ Synth

Marcus Joseph – Alto Saxophone

Midori Jaeger – Cello / Voice

Misha Mullov-Abbado – Double Bass / Electric Bass

Nishla Smith – Voice

Rosie Frater-Taylor– Voice / Guitar

Next month the participants will take part in an online residency week with talks, discussions and breakout sessions with leading industry experts. Participants will also meet in person at Cats Abbey in the Cotswolds to collaborate on a series of pieces that each of them arranged for the entire group, directed by the axophonist Jason Yarde, culminating in a video recording of their works which will be released as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival’s digital programme in November.
