A sound that invites you in. More going on than at first blush the feel shapes over towards the Mattson 2 sound but with a much busier agile street sound to it bubbling under on some tracks. A tuneful fairly melodic 'n' beats psychedelic vibe burns through, and a darting motion probes ever on during this 5-track EP bunch of groovy instrumentals. Golden Mean are the latest clubby Jazz re:freshed favoured band to surface and are very chill but get the motor running when they need to as guitar moves to the beat coloured by cosmic Lonnie Liston Smith reminiscent keyboards.

Highly relatable they appear at the Jazz Cafe in London this Saturday night in a new act triple bill. Personnel on the record are: Tom Driessler, bass guitar; Luke Wynter, guitar; Matt Davies, drums; Lyle Barton, keys. Tracks are: Orbit Trip, Through Walls, Midnight, Tightrope and Rinse & Repeat.
Get the EP via Juno.

Flag this one up looking ahead: Pursuance: The Coltranes out in late-March from New York alto saxophonist/bandleader Lakecia Benjamin features plenty of big name guests including the ever inspiring Ron Carter and Gary Bartz, and more to the point a great opportunity to hear Benjamin under the microscope on classic material paying homage to Alice and John Coltrane.

Benjamin has been around a while picking up a lot of acclaim along the way. This is her third album. Check out Rise Up from 2018 first to jump up to speed.

To be released on the Ropeadope label, 'Liberia,' 'Prema,' 'Central Park West' featuring Jazzmeia Horn, 'Walk With Me,' 'Going Home,' 'Syeeda’s Song Flute,' featuring Second Great Miles Davis Quintet bassist the aforementioned Ron Carter, 'Spiral,' 'Om Shanti,' 'Alabama,' 'Acknowledgement,' featuring the great Dee Dee Bridgewater who sings her own lyrics, 'Pursuance,' 'Turiya and Ramakrishna,' plus 'Affinity' featuring Coltrane bassist Reggie Workman and MBASE era alto sax master Greg Osby on this Alice Coltrane composition all make the cut.
