Hiromi who opened the Tokyo Olympics participating in the first day ceremony has Silver Lining Suite out from Telarc on 8 October with the pianist joined by a string quartet. Classically tilted with the emphasis on dazzling virtuosity and lightness of touch the tango-inspired 'Ribera del Duero,' named apparently for the pianist-composer-bandleader's favourite type of wine (a Spanish red that can be a varietal of Tinto Fino, cabernet sauvignon and other grapes) is streaming. Hiromi's rapport with violinist Tatsuo Nishie, spectacular on the piece, is strikingly easy to discern.
