MC'd by the unflappable Richard Brice highlights of the latest Azalea art happening at the new-look Vortex upstairs last night included poet Blousey - Jade Evans - who runs the regular event building terrific word of mouth buzz accompanied by firstly a pianist and then Segovia influenced guitarist Genn. While not performing on stage Blousey could be seen twirling a coloured hoop, photographing artists, mingling and dancing. It was that kind of night. Tashi Khan's live art and Mati Klarwein-esque paintings on stage were a vivid presence.
The tap dancer Petra Haller who recalled the tremendous spirit of Will Gaines a little was a special guest and was a refreshing presence as was the poet Josaine whose poetry encompassed a forensic denunciation of domestic abuse and the redemptive cultivation instead of restorative self-esteem.
Punk singer songwriter guitarist Lilac Underworld in a Siouxsie Sioux vein impressed early on especially with the punchy 'Chaos.' Review: Stephen Graham
