Pianist-producer Kiefer's When There's Love Around to be released by Stones Throw on 27 August is our Saturday morning listen. It's the best time of the week. 'I Remember This Picture' is the second of the 12 tracks. If you are into Cameron Graves with Kamasi Washington definitely dive in. Kiefer is on Rhodes and on bass guitar it's Butcher Brown's Andrew Randazzo with on lead guitar Simon Martinez and another Butcher Brown connection in that the rhythm guitar player is DJ Harrison. On drums and percussion it's Will Logan who goes back some years with Kiefer and there are tape loops by Blank For.ms.
Kiefer Shackelford was born in San Diego in 1992 and was mentored at UCLA by among others guitar icon Kenny Burrell and debuted four years ago with Kickinit Alone
In April this year he covered Roy Ayers 1970s classic 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine' with trumpeter Theo Croker as guest and Logan on drums from the upcoming release among the personnel.
Elsewhere on the upcoming album say on 'Earthly Things' there's breakthrough touch that lands in a Herbie Hancock and James Poyser area where the groove is laidback lit up inside by its saturated blissed-out feel. 'When There's Love Around' is also streaming. Kiefer, top. Photo: Stones Throw/Bandcamp
