On the lookout for top local jazz club action in east London next week? A big heads up certainly for Magpie trio who are led by drummer-leader Sam Jesson erstwhile habitué of the Camden Con Cellar Bar scene and an alumnus of the Birmingham Conservatoire. Empirical's double bassist Tom Farmer and tenor sax ace George Crowley heard recently in fine fettle at the Vortex complete the set-up. Acquaint yourself with their version of Ellington's 'The Single Petal of a Rose' led off absorbingly by the arco bass of Farmer and which was on last year's Magpie Trio Live album. Ellington's own fabled 'Queen's Suite' version was solo piano. The trio play Eastside in Leytonstone next Tuesday. Info & Tickets

Story so far: the mystical Najara. Next was Shake It, a live version. And now, don't you love serials, solo track the latinate 'Good Hands'. Think a pared back Chucho Valdés. Hearing Chucho live one time in Ranald MacDonald's Boisdale Canary Wharf a decade ago even sat miles away from the stage was one of the thrills of my life. This transports me there and then boomerangs to Klein's own study of touch to bask in the differential. It's yet another dynamic component of the Omer Klein trio's Personal Belongings which is out in 10 days time. Tick tock. Let's hope the OK3 do UK dates in a top spot some time.
