Stimulating to know that the Marcin Wasilewski trio, one of the greatest European piano trios of the last 30 years, are collaborating with Joe Lovano for the first time, the fruits of which will be heard on upcoming album Arctic Riff to be released at the end of May.
It's refreshing to hear tenor titan Lovano in new settings and keeping new musical company.
Among the material included on the album, a Manfred Eicher produced studio affair recorded in France last summer, the cover artwork of which is above top, are two versions of Carla Bley classic 'Vashkar', one a variation.
Our accompanying audio of the piece sourced via YouTube, listen above, is by Carla's former husband Paul Bley on what sounds like a slightly out of tune piano (with Steve Swallow on bass and Pete La Roca playing drums) back in 1963 recording on what was issued in album form by Savoy as part of Footloose!
