Rave on Cameron Graves

Coming out on 19 February is the brutal but compelling Seven, the latest from Cameron Graves. Yet another single 'Sons of Creation' from the album is streaming and contributing to the racket in the marlbank listening ashram earlier on in astonishing the resident doves. Pray, is it worth scaling the wall of sound to climb up on and into the cockpit for? Mmm, yes. Might you risk PTSD as a consequence? Mmm, unlikely. Raving along with Graves it's probably not the case that hawkish Colin Cook, however, is playing the geetar with his teeth. But I did wonder. SG

Altoist Immanuel Wilkins and trumpeter Itamar Borochov have won Air's LetterOne Rising Stars. Air, the management company associated with singer-pianist Jamie Cullum, spearhead the Mikhail Fridman-founded LetterOne that has gradually become one of the most prestigious international competitive jazz contests, the others include the Hancock, formerly the Monk, at the top of the tree. Broadcast over the weekend and live now Jamie Cullum hosted the show introducing firstly the e.s.t. and Nils Petter Molvær manager Burkhard Hopper, who runs the competition, and next the great drummer-composer-bandleader Terri Lyne Carrington heading the judges.
