Latest promo from Sam Gendel and actually in the title track this highly produced reinvention of Ellington and Strayhorn's 'Satin Doll' is much more interesting… Story so far… Clubby DJ-preferred lounge jazz is the pervasive in vogue pace-setting jazz style this last year or so in the wake of the pattern set by labels such as Jazz re:freshed and Brownswood, and the latest to fall under this bracket is from Los Angeles saxophonist Sam Gendel.

All largely unknowns Gendel is with Gabe Noel on bass guitar and Philippe Melanson on electronic percussion.

Tunes are very familiar, eg 'Freddie Freeloader,' from Kind of Blue, Mingus standard 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat,' and the one to get the ball rolling – 'Afro Blue' already on pre-release by Mongo Santamaria.

Look for the album, to be issued by major label imprint Nonesuch in March.

Cosmic 1970s-type keyboard soundz set up 'Rain Dance/Wisdom.' which is new from trumpeter-composer Emma-Jean Thackray.

Beats kick in to introduce an electronics coated downtempo trumpet presence, the dystopian mood stretching out until the Rhodes-y solo takes over after the brief Thackray solo foray.

This is from a Movementt [Thackray's new label] EP Rain dance, out on 6 March.

A very laidback, loungey DJ styled jazz that suddenly gets a turbo charge and wigs out towards the end with added brass eventually goes into a Theon Cross-type space but not as deep down.

Washes of electronics, and chattering drums flavour the whole mood, the trumpet line hanging in the air. SG
