It has not taken long for Sarathy Korwar to become a major artist, 'major' in the sense that the tabla player-drummer-percussionist producer DJ is of major interest to anyone interested at all in jazz and how it connects with music from the Indian subcontinent. The Upaj Collective understand him best and this is an incredible record sophisticated in its sound production organic in its realisation. Sarathy is on drums with Tamar Osborn playing saxophone; Achuthan Sripathamanathan, violin; Giuliano Modarelli, guitar; Alistair MacSween, on keyboards. I hope they all can go on the road some time and bring this incredible music to the people where it belongs up close and personal. Check out especially what they have done as a parallel running taking the foot of the accelerator to the State of Bengal's 'Flight IC 408' and dive in to a record that without any exaggeration is a shatteringly immersive experience.
