Bill Hartman died in Springfield, Missouri on Thursday aged 79. A, retired, professor of music at Missouri State University for many years, the trombonist toured with Stan Kenton in 1973-4. He can be heard on 1973 Stan Kenton album 7.5 On The Richter Scale. The Caduceus doctors' band, which Hartman musically directed and conducted, relayed news of his passing on their site.
Hartman also appears on Stan Kenton Plays Chicago - an album themed around the hits of chart acts Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Earlier from 1968-72 Hartman had played bass trombone in the elite ''president's own'' US Marines band.
