Clubby DJ-preferred lounge jazz is the pervasive in vogue pace-setting jazz style this last year or so in the wake of the pattern set by labels such as Jazz re:freshed and Brownswood, and the latest to fall under this bracket is from Los Angeles saxophonist Sam Gendel who is to release ''Satin Doll.''

All largely unknowns Gendel is with Gabe Noel on bass guitar and Philippe Melanson on electronic percussion.

Tunes are very familiar, eg 'Freddie Freeloader,' from Kind of Blue, Mingus standard 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat,' and the one to get the ball rolling – 'Afro Blue' by Mongo Santamaria. Look for the album, to be issued by major label imprint Nonesuch – in March.
