Looking ahead to early-2023 on the live London scene and two evenings of classic vocals are certainly a priority as Tessa Souter returns to her home city for two nights with a fine band. Appearing with the singer who is based in Manhattan is the legendary drummer and composer Billy Drummond along with the fine bassist Conor Chaplin who is on the recently released Marius Neset album Happy and, completing the trio, keyboardist Jim Watson, known for his work with Manu Katché. Tessa's records include Beyond the Blue which featured Tessa's erudite lyrics set to celebrated melodies from the classical music popular repertoire.
The two night residency marks the first appearance in London by Billy Drummond in many years since the drummer and Julliard professor last appeared in the metropolis with Carla Bley. The drummer-composer's Freedom of Ideas band release Valse Sinistre is one of 2022's best albums.
