The Kobe trio, pianist Mark Murphy, bass guitarist Jaimie Carswell and drummer Con Schmaucks today release their debut Kobe.

Highly melodic in flavour, with a thoroughly developed sense of improvisational rigour arrived at via authentic band interplay and a flair for playing as one, listen for originals and a touching version of Lennon and McCartney's 'With a Little Help From My Friends.' Kobe also includes a poignant highly effective suite dedicated to Cian, a deceased friend of the drummer's.

Out of the fertile Sligo scene in Ireland they launch the record tonight at the Sligo venue Andersons. Kobe also features guest saxophonist Ciaran Wilde, who shines brightly on the deftly rhythmic beat displacing 'Green Groove.'

The necessity of a journey across the Atlantic to play this music on the footsteps of Jack London became obvious. Ultimately, it led the trio to record this album in his hometown, Oakland,” says cellist Vincent Courtois.

The results are wonderful whether ''makin' whoopee'' on 'Am I Blue' or deeply reflective elsewhere Courtois with reedist Robin Fincker and saxophonist Daniel Erdmann are painting vibrant pictures as a synecdoche for adventure, a miniature world that expands ever exponentially. Stephen Graham
