Tony Allen and Hugh Masekela collaboration gains a 2020 release

Just up online the first single, 'We've Landed' from Tony Allen & Hugh Masekela's Rejoice is a must.

In 2010, World Circuit producer Nick Gold recorded the two icons of African jazz.

''The unfinished sessions, the label indicates, ''consisting of all original compositions by the pair, lay in archive until after Masekela passed away in 2018.''

Last summer Allen and Gold dug out the original tapes again and finished the project.

Personnel on the record include Tom Herbert of The Invisible, Joe Armon-Jones from the Ezra Collective and UK sax legend Steve Williamson. Look for the record in March.

Familiarise yourself with the sounds of the very evocative Argentinian duo of singer-bassist Cande Buasso and pianist Paulo Carrizo as a statement of intent to say the least on their smoky super-sensual treatment of the Ray Henderson and Lew Brown song 'The Thrill is Gone' first performed in the 1930s by Rudy Vallee & Everett Marshall and later winningly rendered by such singers as Helen Merrill smoulderingly on You've Got a Date with the Blues in the 1950s and Dakota Staton so very philosophically with Shearing. I guess 'Cande y Paulo' will be hugely successful before too long. Their sound certainly speaks out on an emotionally blue level. SG
