Using the Crookes Scocial club, Crucible studio and Firth Hall the Sheffield scene fires up for another season this week with the appearance of saxophonist Tony Kofi and his Kind of Blue sextet on Saturday night in the Crucible. And following on this month are Rachael Cohen on 21 January and the Adam Glasser Quintet on the 28th.

February and March see an array of well-known UK jazz names including Julian Siegel's quartet (4 Feb), Mark Lockheart's Dreamers (25 Feb) Martin Speake's International Quartet (who include cult Danish bassist Anders ''AC'' Christensen) on 4 March, the Emilia Mårtensson Quintet on the 11th, ex Jeff Beck keyboardist Jason Rebello on the 24th and further on the progressive progressive-freebop trio Partikel on 1 April.
