From the Larry Klein-produced The Women Who Raised Me to be released by Blue Note on 27 March here's Kandace Springs' stunning cover of the Sade Adu/Andrew Hale song 'Pearls' (from 1992 Sade album Love Deluxe) that features trumpeter Avishai Cohen with Kandace on Rhodes accompanying her vocal, Steve Cardenas on guitar, Scott Colley on bass, and the former Betty Carter drummer the great Clarence Penn.
The album is themed around female vocalists in the jazz-and-related pantheon who include Ella Fitzgerald, Roberta Flack, Astrud Gilberto, Lauryn Hill and Billie Holiday.
Bassist Christian McBride is a guest on 'Devil May Care', saxophonist David Sanborn on 'I Put A Spell On You' and Norah Jones on 'Angel Eyes'.
Kandace Springs plays the Ally Pally theatre in London on 3 April.
'There is a woman in Somalia/The sun gives her no mercy/The same sky we lay under/ Burns her to the bone' – from the Pearls lyrics… Norah Jones top left in the photo with Kandace Springs. Photo: Facebook
