Friday sees the release of Portico Quartet bassist Milo Fitzpatrick's new project teaming up with Mammal Hands saxist Jordan Smart in Vega Trails with their record on Gondwana Tremors in the Static. We loved 'Epic Dream' previously featured on the site and ditto 'Spiral Slow' where Fitzpatrick's woody bass sound steers a path that Smart navigates so emotively and which is streaming ahead of release. 'Love Your Grace' the other track streaming so far as a build up to the full album again is spaced around a knowing bass solo with gentle keys and an electronics mist that becomes a beautiful wash behind the solo lines. The project is far jazzier than Portico Quartet and a textbook exercise in less is more and is a breakthrough sound that deserves your time and repeated play.
