Shaping up with several pre-release tracks streaming already to be a stand-out release for the autumn here's 'Stir' from the Refract project of electronica musician BlankFor. ms, pianist Jason Moran and drummer Marcus Gilmore. Existing in a genre of its own there's a panoramic wash to the track that gives it almost an orchestral feeling and a slowly unfurling large scale feel to the piece remarkable given how small the ensemble is. Last year's Vermillion from the Enemy trio - Kit Downes, Petter Eldh, James Maddren - was one of the the albums we enjoyed most of all that year. Issued on the ECM label the trio now switch to the avant-garde Finnish label WeJazz for their next album The Betrayal to be issued on 22 September. Opener the ruggedly compelling 'Hollywood Bypass' is streaming. The Betrayal features original material by Downes and Eldh and was recorded in a Berlin studio last year. Enemy are back in the UK with dates at Cafe Oto in London on 25 October and Eastside, Birmingham next night.
