Track of the day is Kevin Hays tune 'Butterfly' in this glowing trio version from Bridges out next month by pianist Hays, bassist Ben Street and NEA Jazz Master drummer Billy Hart. The album has original compositions by Hays and Hart and classics by Wayne Shorter, Bill Frisell, The Beatles, and Milton Nascimento. This trio first got together for All Things Are released a couple of years ago and here recording at Sear Sound in New York continue the story. As for 'Butterfly' Hays has also composed lyrics for the piece but here in its instrumental version its song-like qualities are never in doubt.

Singer Stacey Kent has a new album this autumn to be released through the Naïve label. Summer Me, Winter Me is out on 10 November. Arrangements on the album are by Stacey's husband Jim Tomlinson and tracks are: 1. Summer Me, Winter Me by Michel Legrand and Marilyn & Alan Bergman; 2. La Valse des Lilas by Michel Legrand/Eddie Barclay/Eddy Marnay; 3. Thinking About The Rain by Jim Tomlinson/Cliff Goldmacher; 4. Under Paris Skies by Jean Wiener/Kim Gannon; 5. If You Go Away by Jacques Brel/Hal McKuen; 6. Happy Talk by Richard Rodgers/Oscar Hammerstein; 7. Show Me by Frederick Loewe/Alan Jay Lerner; 8. Postcard Lovers by Jim Tomlinson/Kazuo Ishiguro; 9. Corcovado by Tom Jobim/Vinícius de Moraes/Gene Lees; 10. A Song That Isn’t Finished Yet by Jim Tomlinson/Cliff Goldmacher; and 11. Ne me quitte pas by Jacques Brel.

Stacey says: ''This is the first time I’ve recorded a song twice on the same album. 'If You Go Away' entered my repertoire in 2018 when Jim wrote an orchestral arrangement for a concert in Paris. I was also singing Jacques Brel’s original, 'Ne me quitte pas,' from time to time. But whatever the language, someone would ask why I hadn’t sung it in the other. Some singers have responded by interpolating both languages into the same version. Since both sets of lyrics are beautiful on their own terms and are equally deserving of inclusion, I chose to record them both.''

Updated on 22 September with lead-off track 'Under Paris Skies' which is now streaming added.
