Recorded in Denmark over a couple of days of late-September last year this quartet album (alto sax, guitar, Hammond organ and drums the instruments) is a relaxed all-standards affair nicely played by all concerned. No one is showing off.

Soaked in nostalgia and although full of sentimental songs the quartet don’t lay on the treacle with a trowel. However, it is a little too snoozy and familiar for complete comfort. Complementing 2012 release Nightfall, which features the same quartet, ‘In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning’ sums up the album, chilled and contemplative sax from the Icelandic leading light Flosason as the main lead instrument with guitarist Fischer taking some tasty solos now and then excelling particularly on ‘Blue Moon.’ SG
