Alexander Stewart moves more into the pop mainstream with I Thought About You but never forgets where he’s coming from.

Yet there’s still plenty of appeal for jazz fans here by one of the brightest and best new jazz-influenced singers to have emerged on the UK scene in recent years.

There’s an energy and style to opener ‘Part Time Lover’ that is quite infectious and plenty of feeling and sheer empathy on a range of material where arguably the Bacharach/David material shines through most brightly. Closer ‘A House is Not A Home’ is worth buying the album for alone. Tender as the night for sure the album is out now on Herzog Records.

Hear Stewart too on the new Copasetics record Call me Lucky.
