Leading Scottish violinist and vocalist Seonaid Aitken is to release her new Ensemble album Chasing Sakura next month, with a release confirmed for 29 April. The album was inspired by the cherry blossoms around Glasgow during regular walks and makes a connection with Japan’s cherry blossom season, which Seonaid admired when she spent time living in Japan. Spanning classical, jazz and folk Chasing Sakura was originally commissioned by the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival. With Seonaid on the record are Katrina Lee on violin, Patsy Reid on viola and Alice Allen on cello, Emma Smith on bass and Helena Kay on tenor saxophone and flute. Seonaid says: “The record is crossover music which doesn’t adhere to one particular genre, rather takes influences from many.'' Look out for 'Impermanence' from the album to be released on Friday.
