Marlbank track of the week for week beginning 24 July 2023

''I recognised a new contemporary jazz master on the rise, and thought she was a perfect addition to our 20th anniversary season,” says Motéma Music label head Jana Herzen. No wonder because 'In A Time Warp' has that stand-out-a-mile in the crowd factor. Drawn from Rising Sun new this autumn from pianist Shuteen Erdenebaatar soprano saxophonist Anton Mangold is also significant in the sound on this grace note accented track and there's also a fine double bass solo from Nils Kugelmann the whole anthemic effect certainly more than the sum of its parts as the rippling Erdenebaatar touches resound nudged along by a jockeying Valentin Renner on drums. Motéma are to be applauded in taking a big leap with the debuting Erdenebaatar, still in her mid twenties and very much an unknown, a musician hailing from Mongolia where she studied in Ulaanbaatar later championed by the Goethe Institute and excelling academically in Munich where she is based. 'In a Time Warp' is our Tuesday track of the day and a remarkably moving sound you won't in its lilting modality have remotely heard anywhere before. Stop everything to discover the track today.

Rising Sun is out on 15 September
