This is the most joyously swinging album we have come across in a while. You get incredible bounce and swagger from the rhythm section. And it's a place to go too for anyone into the music of the great Blue Note 1960s fixture Duke Pearson. Tracks from albums of Pearson's such as Honeybuns, Sweet Honey Bee and The Right Touch are included and throughout you get a real sense of continuum and empathy in the sound from these talented players - saxist Diego Rivera, pianist Art Hirahara (Jon Davis takes over on some tracks) bassist Boris Kozlov and drummer Vinnie Sperrazza who perform under the band moniker Blue Moods. Pick of the tracks? I'd go for the dreamy version of 'Gaslight' but stick a pin anywhere here and you will come away with a contented feeling. SG

Here's the tender opening track from Chris Potter's all-star new album for Edition due in March, Eagle's Point. Featuring Brad Mehldau - who goes way with Potter, appearing on the saxist's 1990s-era album Moving In - John Patitucci and Brian Blade it's something of a supergroup with tracks comprised of Potter originals.
