Fiercely burning in its most appealing passages, resolutely genreless A Time To Remember the title track of which is streaming moves way beyond conventional jazz. But the work contains plenty of jazz language fear not if that is an issue. Concert hall music that lands in a similar vein to the slightly different chamber-jazz pattern this leans essentially more towards chanson in a blend that also draws in Albanian music and follows an established framework that the duo of Albanian Swiss singer Elina Duni and English guitarist Rob Luft have established. Sinai Desert and Red Sea inspired Duni sings in French on 'Évasion,' - ''escape'' in English - once again with her Lost Ships Quartet.
Luft, British-Argentinian pianist Fred Thomas and the Swiss flugelhornist Matthieu Michel complete the band. 'Évasion' is a wonderfully dreamy original of Elina and Rob's with the words by Belgian-Israeli poet Esther Granek, the lyrics speaking elliptically of the immensity of sea and ''tormented sky.'' A Time to Remember also includes a gently rippling treatment of Stephen Sondheim’s 'Send In The Clowns'. Earlier album Lost Ships has far more impact but there is plenty to savour here.
