Two years ago pianist Tom Oren from Tel Aviv won what was then the Monk competition (now the Hancock) the competition website noting at the time that “First place winner Tom Oren (24), commanded the audience’s attention with his performance of ‘Just One Of Those Things’ and ‘Just As Though You Were Here’.'' His album Dorly's Song is to be released by Concord Jazz at the end of October, the chance to sign to Concord part of the competition prize. 'Melody,' the third track on the album, is streaming; on it the pianist is joined by bassist Barak Mori and drummer Eviatar Slivnik. A special guest on the album is Israel tenor saxophone icon Eli Degibri. Dorly's Song includes Oren's take on songs composed by his mother, the pianist Dorly Oren Chazon.
