Galician Xota and South American chacarera rhythms from l-r: Yago Vazquez, Pablo Menares, Rodrigo Recabarren

A New York piano trio borne of friendship.

Led by Chilean drummer Rodrigo Recabarren with his compatriot double bassist Pablo Menares - who is on the upcoming Melissa Aldana Blue Note album Echoes of the Inner Prophet - and the Galician Spanish pianist Yago Vázquez (slightly Danilo Pérez-like in places) completing the line-up, an earlier record of theirs is maiden voyage Desde La Lluvia (CHT Müsik, 2017). Galician Xota and South American chacarera rhythms feed into the sound. Vazquez tune 'Castro' is recommendable with its shapely swinging sense, as too is Menares' persuasive 'Ritual' and its engaging mooch. Out today
