Let Spin's third album Steal the Light is to be released next month and for which the absorbing 'Sketch' listen in heralds.

Dystopian, brooding… dark… Ornettian… prog. All these adjectives spring to mind at first blush.

A forward thinking four-piece formed of guitarist Moss Freed + bass guitarist Ruth Goller, who is on the happening new Vula Viel record What's Not Enough About That? + drummer Finlay Panter and alto saxophonist Chris Williams of Led Bib, this latest album took the band to Hull and back to lay down the n(h)umbers. Tunes are by each of the band members. No Larkin about, thankfully.

Listen for the bit when Lee Morgan simply explodes…

… Dating back to 8 March 1959 Blue Note records are putting it out on 24 April on vinyl, CD and for download/streaming. Makes you realise all over again why you love jazz in the first place. Whether you were alive when this was made or not matters not a jot.

On the LP the ordering goes like:

  • SIDE 1
  • Hipsippy Blues (Hank Mobley)
  • Close Your Eyes (Bernice Petkere)
  • Jimerick (unknown)
  • SIDE 2
  • Quick Trick (Bobby Timmons)
  • M&M (Hank Mobley)
  • Just Coolin’ (Hank Mobley)
