Drummer David Lyttle's label Lyte Records is to release a new EP next month by guitarist Phil Robson. Titled Portrait in Extreme it's a self-produced and recorded collection of original compositions recorded last year in Ireland that marked a big change in Phil's life, from living and working in the States after moving there from his native England to relocate to live in rural Ireland as the Pandemic struck. Robson uses Ableton Live 11 software and drum loops in collaboration with David Lyttle and Phil's partner singer Christine Tobin appears on two of the EP tracks. Phil says: ''I've often felt strong polarities in my work, life and the world around me. I suppose the far reaches of this spectrum could be perceived as a little ‘extreme’ relocating from NYC to the countryside of Roscommon, playing with Dave Liebman one week & Barbra Streisand the next, living in the USA in the Obama and then Trump era, etc! From within this perspective, I now want to draw upon & embrace the elements connecting these ‘extremes’, as my inspiration in my playing & compositions. To reference possible polarities again, I love John Zorn's Naked City & Chopin nocturnes, the Curlew mountains & the streets of Hackney, Miles Davis & Black Sabbath!''
