Track of the day is a pensive, ruminative sax-piano duo avant piece from saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock and pianist Andy Milne. You could hear this as a ballad, a lament even, and the way the mood is set up by Milne lends itself to such an outcome. Laubrock carefully unpeels phrase after telling phrase towards a tender core. Drawn from the Fragile album which is to be released by Intakt on 20 May.

What a concise and mellow set of three solo treatments this is from pianist Art Hirahara with its Ahmad Jamal-esque sense of time and space on the title track and its mellow, floating feel. Hirahara has a lightness of touch and a clarity in his runs and chordal explorations that make this a pleasure from start to finish. Hirahara says more in little more than these brief 10 minutes in all than most can meaningfully produce in a month of trying.
