Stunning sounds here from Itamar Borochov. The Jaffa born trumpeter has put together an album of 9 compositions inspired by Sephardic music heard in his local synagogue and by absorbing the characteristic maqams modal sounds pervasive throughout the Middle East and parts of North Africa into his wider style deepened by jazz study in New York. He plays a custom made quarter tone trumpet and has a band with him on the upcoming album who include pianist Rob Clearfield, bassist Rick Rosato and drummer Jay Sawyer. Borochov also sings on the album for the first time.

Listen to 'Abraham,' and 'What Broke You?' from the album above

Out on 8 September

London shows are at the Pizza Express Jazz Club on 5 and 6 October
